The First Ten Days

Today marks the 10-day plateau in the life of Addie Jean. So far her greatest feats of childhood include filling her diaper, kicking her legs with freakish strength, almost rolling over in Mommy and Daddy's bed, removing a mitten off of her hand and wrapping her toes around Uncle Corey's index finger. We've loved every minute of it.

Back By Popular Demand

For all of those who have not been able to spend much time around Addie...which is just about everyone since we haven't left the house...here are some more pictures from the last few days. Does she really have to grow up so fast?

Reality Strikes

No matter how tired we are after a few days at home, I would never trade a moment away from our Addie Jean. However, I'm not sure anything prepares first-time parents for the fatigue and messed-up sleep pattern that comes during the first few weeks of her life. We thought we had her on a nice schedule, but of course that only lasted for a night. Her regular feeding pattern gave way to scattered, varying eating times and lengths. Then again, when you see your little treasure lying there so peaceful with a fully belly and hear her breathing while she lays on your chest, it's all worth it.

Here are a few more pictures and a video from us going home from the hospital.

Say Hello to Addie Jean

At 5:41am, Adelyn Jean Montgomery squeezed her way out of Mommy's tummy and came out into the world. She was 7lbs, 10oz and was 20.5 inches long. Once the doctors and nurses got her cleaned up and out from under the heat lamp, which she was not a fan of, she has been comfortably sleeping with whomever will hold her. That list has thus far included Mom and Dad, Grandma Katrina, Grandpa Alan (aka Beanpole), Aunt Lisa and Aunt Bethany. Addie, as we will call her, will be spending her first few days at the Kaiser hospital in Irvine, Room 365. Here are a few more pictures from the opening few hours of her precious little life.

And now...we wait

To quote our physician from our checkup on Friday morning: "Well Kara, you're a lady in waiting now."

Just the words two eager, first-time parents want to hear as we await the arrival of Addie. Now, we will gladly take those words over something with a negative message, but other than hearing that she's already 7 pounds (which scared Kara to death), her head-to-chest ratio is just fine and we were assured there's nothing to worry about.

So, we're rooting for Addie to wait until at least Friday, but hopefully Monday or Tuesday of next week. That way, we'll have the most essential house projects finished and be as ready as we're going to be.

Until then...we wait.
